Govt Degree College for Women, Kathua was established in 2005, by an order of Govt of Jammu and Kashmir with an enrollment of 10 students in Arts The science stream was introduced from the academic session 2010- 11 The inflow of student to the college is increasing with every passing year In the session 20111-12 the number of students enrolled was 663 and it has increased to 1080 during the session 2012-13 and 1062 in session 2014-15, 1177 in 2015-16 ,1123 in 2016-17and 947 in 2017-18The campus of the college is spread over an environment friendly area of about 60 kanals, which consists of administrative, Arts, Science and Library blocks including well equipped modern laboratories The lush green lawn in front of the blocks are creating learner friendly ambienceThe college is recognized by the UGC under section 2(f), 12(B) due to which the college is eligible to receive central assistance from the UGC under various schemesIn the field of academic the college has excelled in bagging top positions in university in recent years The past percentage of the college during the session 2013-14 was quite higher than the university pass percentage Two students of the college namely Shivani Pathania and Noopur Sharma secured 7th and 10th positions in BA Part III session 2014-15 We are expecting position in Arts as well as Science Stream in the session 2015-2016 also, Ms Ananya of BA part III secured 7th position in the session 2016-17Apart from academic, the college is also excelling in the field of sports The NCC and NSS cells of the college have been recognised by the National level by the performance of their cadets and volunteers Students of the college have also been making their mark in “Display Your Talent” competition organized by the University of Jammu Ms Diksha Andotra of BA part III got Vice Chancellor’s commendation certificate for special 120 hours of NSS followed by Ms Reshm in the session 2016-17.
